Human rights have many faces. Children, women, activists, people with disabilities, victims of torture and human trafficking – they all need our special protection.

The prime objective of German foreign policy is to maintain and establish peace. Many conflicts have their roots in systematic human rights violations. So a human rights-based approach is instrumental in ensuring stability and security. This means that no policy area can afford to ignore human rights. Rather, a commitment to human rights must be regarded as a cross-sectoral task for all policy areas. Here’s some information about a few of the focuses of Germany’s human rights policy.
