National Visa - Questions and their answers
Application through the Consular Service Portal
You can upload your documents after creating an account and answering the required questions. To be placed on the waiting list, you must confirm that all your documents are complete.
You will then have another opportunity to exchange or add documents before your application is reviewed by embassy staff. You will receive a notification about this in the Consular Service Portal in due course.
If you do not have all the necessary documents yet when creating your account (e.g. blocked account or formal obligation letter) and still wish to be placed on the waiting list, please upload substitute documents first. However, as soon as you receive notification that your application is ready for preliminary review, the correct documents MUST be submitted; otherwise, your application cannot be processed. Therefore, please ensure that you check your documents for accuracy and completeness before submitting your application digitally for preliminary review.
To ensure your application is pre-checked without delay and you can book an appointment as soon as possible, please note the following:
- Read all information carefully and completely.
- Follow the instructions.
- Complete the questionnaire correctly.
- Upload all documents in good quality and in full.
- Upload only the required documents in the respective section.
- Check your account on the Consular Service Portal regularly for updates.
If you are asked to make a correction, please be sure to:
- Upload the requested document.
- Do not upload the same document again.
Review all sections to see if any further changes are necessary before resubmitting your application for review.
Please contact the Consular Service Help Desk in case of technical problems (not being able to log-in, no uploading possible, strange depiction) .
The Embassy cannot help with technical problems.
Due to high demand, student visa applications cannot be pre-checked immediately. Therefore, a waiting list has been introduced. You can find your current waiting time in your account on the Consular Service Portal. For technical reasons, the waiting time can only be displayed in weeks or months. Your application will be processed as quickly as possible. Please help us by refraining from status inquiries.
The embassy recommends that you contact your university in Germany directly to discuss the possibilities of starting your studies at a later date or participating digitally. Some universities allow for a later start date and issue corresponding letters. Please upload these along with your letter of admission.
It is not necessary to obtain a new letter of admission if the university has confirmed your eligibility for admission in a later semester in writing.
Please upload the following documents as proof of finances for the study fees:
- sponsorship letter
- ID of the sponsor (passport or Ghana card)
- bank statements of the last three months from the sponsor
Please choose “Educational establishment/company/organisation” as type of reference and fill out the boxes with the data of the German university. Do not fill in with data of persons, even if they are residing in Germany.
Re-entry Visa
Unfortunately, the Embassy cannot offer special appointments in this case. Kindly book an appointment under the category “Re-entry” on the booking portal on our website.
The processing time depends on the individual case. In some cases it is necessary to obtain the approval of the alien’s authority in Germany. In this case processing can take several weeks. If it is not necessary to obtain the approval of the alien’s authority, your visa application can usually be processed within two weeks.
Information regarding the requirements for a re-entry visa can be found on our website: here
